British Columbia is the first province in Canada to regulate assisted living residences. An Assisted Living Registrar protects the health and safety of seniors and people with disabilities who live in publicly subsidized and private-pay assisted living residences.

Before Moving to Assisted Living: What You Need to Know

If you are considering a move to an assisted living residence you probably have lots of unanswered questions:

What services are offered?
How often will they be provided — e.g. will you get one, two or three meals per day?
Who will be providing the service?
How much will it cost?
Are there any extra charges — e.g. for additional services, such as the operator doing your personal laundry?

Prospective residents may also wish to ask about things such as bringing a pet or smoking in your unit.
